Regarding your Christmas newsletter and houses: You need to have your ducts cleaned yearly, too. Otherwise, you could start a fire. It's not terribly expensive, but, if you haven't had it done, you should get it done ASAP.
You should have your sprinkler blown out at the end of the summer, if you have underground sprinklers.
If your pipes freeze, you can unfreeze them with a hair dryer. I have a lot of coldness-related advice, but I doubt you'll need most of it. Much more helpful if one is in frozen tundra like Nebraska.
Chewed gum and pencil are useful for retrieving items dropped down vents.
